Section 67 (last updated 5.15.2021)
Having an idea is not a matter of wondering about things. Instead ideas spring forth into the mind from the object and the mind sustains and develops the idea of the object. The evidence for this Peirce says, “stares us all in the face every hour of our lives” whenever we perceive an object. (CP 6.452)
Whenever I think of anything, the atomic structure of the idea is received by the mind because the atomic structure of something is not physical in the same way as the object observed to be the result of the atoms. There are different levels of physicality, for example, rocks and wind are both physical but they are entirely different in being physical — the rock is heavier, harder, denser, more solid etc., in comparison to the wind, which feels entirely different in every way, from the view of the faculty of touch, objects that are heavier, denser, and of a harder compositions appear to be more real in being physical than lighter softer objects, likewise things that are less visible also appear to be less physical, something with the right size for the eye to see appears most physical, while if it becomes too big like a fallacy or too small like a tiny atom, then it becomes more abstract in conception. In other words the more an objects exhibits an emphasis to the facility of sensation, the more physical and real it appears to be. But this method which is so natural is confused because in the purely rational domain, which is the abstract part of the mind, the part responsible for science, all varying degrees of physicality are considered to be real
Each idea has a specific configuration of atoms. This is why the brains neurological system looks like the way it does, I.e., it looks like a branches web. It’s because ideas in relation to other ideas form a structural web and they form the brain as such. Every thought sublate atoms in a particular way. If your ideas are influx and chaotic, they access an atomic structures that are inconsistent and random. If your thought are coherent and harmony they produces an atomic structure that create the future. The term truth simply means the way of thinking that is conducive to the idea in the object. Incorrect thinking is the misapprehension of the idea, misunderstanding the structure of the idea. The future only exists insofar as what the present is like from the past. And the past and the present is but just the mind already structured.
The brain is an organic system that is able to receive and process ideas. The Neurological brain process is the metabolization of the idea. Neurones are electrically excitable cell. This means that the task of neurone is to receive and transmit signals. Any brain activity exhibits the elucidation of neurological networks. The brain is a systemic recapture of information. The brain on its own does not conjure anything out of nothing. It analyzes and synthesizes information received externally from the objects.
When the mind makes its self the object, that object becomes the thought that is able to be manipulated by it.
(Add infinitesimal, infinite = finite)
The mind residing in the particular shares a continuity with the universal. In that when the particular mind thinks of an object, that object is a finite abstraction from an infinity. When the object is thought of, it is thought about in relation to everything else, or other things more than itself. When I am thinking of a circle, I accessed a particular idea belonging to the infinity of ideas. And so my mind now has the idea of a circle in contradiction to any other finite idea that can be abstracted from the infinity, whether it be a square or a full body living organism, the very basic finite idea of a square or a circle, share a relationship with a mammal, even though the mammal is infinitely more complex finite, then the basic finite idea of a square that predicate it, we still see that they bear a relation.
A square can define the distant between the mammal in relation to a tree, to a rock, and to another mammal. You can abstract such relations between those objects by forming a square. You can also do so for example that the two eyes of the mammal down to the nose form a triangular relation which can be measured by angles and as such. More basically the animal is infinitesimally the collection of all such shapes. every shape possible constitute the mammal as a finite object. So any part of the mammal can be measured by any geometric shape. Any of those finite shapes can be accessed in the other finite object like the mammal. The mind is a finite entity that is able to access the infinite finites.
When the particular mind is engaged in thinking, any access of a finite idea has an infinitesimal influence on the infinity. Every thought literally affects the infinite realm of thoughts. Your ideas literally cause motion in the world. When you think of something specific, that finite idea is abstracted away from the infinity, and the infinity responses by contradicting the finite idea. If I think of a square, the infinite responses by contradicting my thought of a square with a circle and a triangle. This means that ideas control time. When I think of an idea, it becomes some abstraction in time that everything else is working towards to get to it, and once the idea is attained, it triggers another from the ideas that led to it. This is a forward process not random.
How Ideas received by mind
–Thoughts cause motion.
We are talking here about generative motion not just locomotion. (See Aristotle definition of fundamental motion)
Motion A’s generation, the thought is a duration in time so long as it is conceived. When the mind grasps a concept, say like a circle, the mind is accessing a feature fundamental to the world. So there is an infinitesimal continuity between mind as a universal principle and a particular entity. Reason is this continuity between mind as a particular and as a universal. This continuity is physical meaning that there is contact where a transmission is made, and it connects the individual with the universal. The quantum realm resides in the particular mind and cones outwards into the world, and the inverse is also true. (See peirce figure of insistency) Perice aims to captures this in the following figure. But I think an easier of understanding this is by thinking of the relationship as a cone collapsing into itself.
This cone going into itself characterizes the way the mind abstracts its idea as a particular and then that particular idea going back into the universal. This process operates as such: the mind is both the infinite and finite. The mind is constituted by an infinity of ideas. From this infinite ideas, it take one idea and separates it as a finite. That finite idea now challenges the infinite ideas because it is something different by virtue of it being definite whereas the Infinite is indefinite insofar as it is potentially every idea. The idea that is made into a definite finite challenges the infinite indefiniteness because the infinity has to go through every idea that is not that finite to see how that idea is itself that finite.
(Add neurological idea)
Thoughts cause motion. This may be a hard idea to grasp, but it is not mistaken. When the mind grasps a concept, say like a circle, the mind is accessing a feature fundamental to the world. So there is an infinitesimal continuity between mind as a universal principle and a particular entity. Reason is this continuity between mind as a particular and as a universal. This continuity is physical and it connects the individual with the universal. The quantum realm resides in the particular mind and cones outwards into the world, and the inverse is also true. The idea that is made into a definite finite challenges the infinite indefiniteness because the infinity has to go through every idea that is not that finite to see how that idea is itself that finite.
As peirce points out the equation, the infinite itself is finite. What this means is that the finite by definition assumes uniqueness. But there is an infinite finites. The infinite is the collection f finites that are themselves the expression of the similarity they share, which is infinite. So each finite is at the same time an infinite. This contradictions means that when something is finite and unique, it exists externally from everything else that is finite and unique, but they relate in that all finites are infinitely unique. So each finite exists as something unique but share the infinite nature in that every finite is infinitely different. Numbers are this example. 1,2,3,4,5
Each number is unique but follows the next as the infinite form of addition.
Whenever I think of anything, the atomic structure of the idea is received by the mind. Each idea has a specific configuration of atoms. Absolute freedom- lightcone
Everything is determined from a state of absolute freedom, but the very nature of the determination itself serves as the law and the governing force of the determination. That there appears to be a governing force or law in the world is related to the very determination of the activity from freedom. freedom is the most vital condition for a state of determination. This means that A) every possible determination has the capacity for willing its own self-existence and B) in this state of absolute freedom of possibility the governing rule of all different determinations is the very initial will from freedom, which so far as being the first rational law, constitutes the basis for things to operate freely but limited by that law as their rational basis.
Freedom as the rational law presupposes that the relation of opposing things itself be the governing order of things, the applicability of logic is that the force of one determination governs the force of another determination. In a state of freedom forces having different determinations are governed by each other each having the difference that relates them together. Things determined in opposing ways must have that difference as their relation meaning that the difference itself is the self-identical unity which is able to govern the determinations against each other as opposing forces.
This depiction of the light cone is limited because it does not explain from first perspective point of view, which is how light cone is fundamentally, this is an abstraction. From the first perspective point of view the apex is the unobservable point which is the common point where everything converges towards, out of that there is first the activity of it and the body, these are simultaneously the same thing, and they appear as first having broad perspective of things far away, generally picture of things like looking at horizon, and second perspective of particular things most immediate and closest in approximately such as the body you are looking outwards from, or any object you pick up and closing look into like a rock.
Anything past the light cone is now disclosed by the circle converging into the apex. The circle of the cone in geometry is a self relation that meet at the vertex. The light cone describes the geometry of the observer. The apex is the common point of two inverse determinations commonly framed as past and future. But these conditions of time characterizes the self-relation of the observer. The observer is a vertex of spacetime divergence. Space is always where the event occur meaning the shape they assume. Space exhibits an arbitrary principle which is the first way of being is first to be a kind of way. In order for things to be particular kind of way there first has to be a way, a passage for things to happen. In order to be anywhere first has to be somewhere. This is principle of the body, that any activity is also simultaneously a body.
Time is the activity of this body, the cause for its motion both in the sense of moving from place to place but also fundamentally the motion generating the kind of form it assumes. The past and future constitutes vertical axis of time, they are the relation of the activity what has been done in relation to what is being done. The light cone consisted the totality of consciousness, that one cone is space the body extending of the observer, and the other cone is time the determination of the conception.
deriving the diverging points, the past is always the space where events happen
(Add to geometry inner outer incriped?) that anything past it now becomes disclosed by the circle of the cone. The term “past” is interesting because as an adjective it describes the moment of time no longer existing or belonging to a former time. Past as an adverb and presupposition qualifies the adjective to mean motion from one side to another. Past is participle of pass, a spatially extended motion. The past in time is not moment absolutely no longer existing but dependent on movement haven passed certain ground. (Add to observer effect)
Light is the general force carrier transmitting information from the object to the observer.
Where do ideas come from?
The object is the avenue to the indeterminate state of its being, where the abstract of itself exists. In this indeterminate state is where the form of the object is, in the sense that, the object itself is a particular variable from a variation of an infinite possibilities of that object. The object is a part of a group that all belong under an archetype, which is the psychological equivalent to the philosophical form. When you look at a particular object, implicit in that object is an avenue to its form, which there exists an infinite possibility of variations like itself, and these variations are the abstract state of the object, which is also what belongs in the mind. In the mind is also this abstract state of the object which is what is in the object when it is perceived. This is why when you perceive an object you get an indefinite number of thoughts that relate to it; these thoughts are the possibilities of the object received through it as an avenue to the mind, which is also the same place where the abstract of that object exists containing the same infinite possibilities of its Form.
The individual is looking at the object in present time, implicit in that object are all its potential moments in time (represented by the pink chairs), which are all the possibilities it can be, and all the variations of its form (the pink chair). The individual receives these possibilities from the object as ideas (black chairs) and achieves what we call an “idea” in his head about it, gets the form of it, which is an archetype grouping all the possibilities together so that when he sees two different objects of the same form, he can recognize they are the same, two oddly different chairs sharing in the form, or rather sharing in the idea of a form. The so called idea of the chair in the head, which is also its form as it was received from the object, is the same set of possibilities that the object can be in time. In other words, the idea the individual receives from the object is the same possibility of it in time. the ideas in the head; and the possibilities of the object in time, are the same realm.
The individual is experiencing the object in 3-Dimensional space which is where the object is present . In 3-dimensional space there can only be one possibility of time present. This is the resolution, or also the limit, of the indeterminate constancy of the infinite because if you would of looked at all events ever happening at once and at the same time, you would not be able to discern between the differences that all do exists, or that all these differences would make the same unity, they would be an undifferentiated mass having the same form, which is what looking at any one object is like in the first instance, and so when you only see a single object, like a tree over there, or a table over here, you are not seeing all possibilities all at once, you are seeing all as a single one of them.
This is what it means for the spectrum to be dynamical because on the one hand a spectrum is defined two end extremes to which there is a mediation in between, and so we think the extremes are fixed and the in-between is variable, but the extremes themselves are also part of the in-between as one of the points, and therefore the extremes are always changes. It is a dynamical system.
Light cone
This means that looking out at something exhibits a cone like geometry, where the light from the perceptual organ originates and expands and generalizes to disclose a field of possible particular objects whose relations is only their reference to each other (Desecrate definition of situation add here) simultaneously from the general picture of things at particular object directly abstracted and perceived now inversely constitutes a central locus point of the conception disclosing it which from that measures the other limit of its conception the circumference .
The limit of the conception consists both of what is 1) indirect constituting the outermost extremities, the circumference, and 2) directly constituting the point that the conception is directed to. The point the conception is directed towards generates the outermost extremities in the conception of it, and therefore takes the circumference as the object. The circumference discloses the centre point furthest away from its extremities as the object
Light cone is defined as ” a surface in space-time, represented as a cone in three dimensions, comprising all the points from which a light signal would reach a given point (at the apex) simultaneously, and that therefore appear simultaneous to an observer at the apex.”
In the normal illustration of the light cone diagram , the observer takes the centre from which a past and future light cone originates from. And this centre point is where the conception of time originates from.
This demonstration of light cone is objective in the sense that a certain locus point is presupposed to already be present as a centre originating a time sequence. There is however a more fundamental need to explain how the centre point of a light cone or rather the present “here and now” associated with the observer actually comes to be the particular factor of a time sequence? To answer this question we have to take the subjective point of view of the observer which is the moment for a possible given conception.
The subjective side is the phenomenological experience of the present and is the arbitrary principle from which the observer originates as the centre point for a sequence of time. The arbitrary principle in this sense does not concern what a thing is because the form of something is always not arbitrary but based on function for determinative aim. But the arbitrary principle concerns the fact that from a set of possibilities each is viable as a potential present for determination. This concerns the first ordination of an original point is that it must be actually present. In other words to be present means to be available for determination. The present is a logical predict prior to any definite particular determination because it is the field of possibility from a given thing is capably abstracted from.
The presence is itself the point of many possibilities from which a particular definite thing is conceived
If we begin from the point of indefinite conception as the definite conception than we have a circle which is a field where any potential spot on it is the centre point for ordination or conception
Take for example what is known in the science of optics (the study of light) as the “circle of confusion”
The form of this phenomenon is an inversion of the light cone. Whereas the light cone consists of a definite centre point expanding in the temporal direction to an indeterminate past and future, where the light cone ends, the inverse form begins which is where the indeterminacy begins in the light cone is continued with the inverse form where a point expands into a circle, the same circle then extends into a relation to another point. The indeterminacy of the light cone is found in circle expanded from the past and future because for obvious reasons the future is indeterminate due to the element of not being present yet for the definite point leading into it, and the indeterminacy of the past is less obvious but similarly haven already happen looses according to Pierce intensity on substance, for example eyewitness testimony is widely used in legal system but is unreliable because the more time pass by between the occurrence of the incidence the less accurate is the memory in recollecting the incident making it victim to confirmation bias.
These indeterminacies are derived from the presupposition that the central point takes up a particular place in the sequence of time such that it is limited
The form of light exhibited by the circle of confusion takes the point as constituting all possibilities of the duration, that its particular determination of one way invariably presupposes the inverse determination in the other way as part of its physical constitution. This is why the circle of confusion causes a blur because in a field of possibility a particular point for direct observation is not determined.
In the above example the lens contains the capacity to disclose the inverse determination for any given determination. This is why a circle of confusion is an actual spot of indistinctness a blue spot because it consists of the opposing possibilities of the same point.

A light cone is an interesting formulation as to how a finite conception from an observer constitutes a dividing point between the two inverse magnitudes of micro and macro scales. In physics, “nothing is faster than the speed of light” means light is the measure of matter because it is the most ethereal substance, it is at the extent of any physical composition, in other words, any physical objects is encapsulated by light, or likewise any object omits light.
In scripture, Ephesians 5:13, “But everything exposed by the light becomes visible–and everything that is illuminated becomes a light”, across all religions there is the idea implicated in different manner that the light of the lord reveals all things, or as “God said, let there be light: and there was light” this comes after the explanation in genesis that “the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep” (third verse of book of genesis)
